Magibearlin

Magibearlin

I created this true-blue Magibearlin in the occasion of the 90s anniversary celebration of the Magic Circle, Berlin.

I had loved to hand over this birthday present myself, but unfortunately my personal attendance was prevented. To ensure this picture reaches the jubilees in time, I herewith publish it one day before the big convention. May the Magibearlins never run out of magic!

Congratulations to Berlin!

the masked hero

I call this figure:
The masked hero

So well… in this picture you see the “masked magician” preparing his best trick. This antihero blows the lid off illusions and thus disillusions viewers, especially on kid`s channels, for more than one decade now. Disclosing an illusion after the performance is like establishing a graveyard next to a hospital. This great hero has to disguise in the daytime as well to prevent his magic peers from lynching him on the street one day.

A magician`s highest good is the protection of his own magic secrets. Thus it was not that hard expressing artistically his attitude towards this issue in my cartoon.

This cartoon has NOT been printed on canvas. Maybe one day a paper manufacturer will stoop to print it on four-ply perforated yard goods and launches it on the magic market. Please do not print, do not hang up, consider the environment!

Kaiser’s Camelot

I call this figure
Kaiser’s Camelot

Herein the meeting of collectors and historians of magic arts – which took place in the magic castle Schloss Schönfeld – has been caricatured. The magic castle has been initiated by Karl-Heinz Kaiser and offers, in addition to a small museum for magic arts, several event locations, which are regularly used for magic shows. A lot of multinational guest artists have already performed here. And this year, the meeting of collectors and historians was held there.
I have depicted the castle as a secret place for rituals, just like King Arthurs Camelot. All top hats have to wait outside and all “weapons” (wands) are put on the round table, aiming towards the middle. The figureheads for the German-speaking collectors and historians are gathering round the flying table. All uniform dressed in robes, this mage lodge!

Clockwise from right bottom: Karl Heinz Kaiser, Flip, Magic Christian, Rüdiger Deutsch, Volker Huber, Steffen Taut. The seventh person prefers to remain incognito and stays outside the picture. See the guy in the window in the upper right corner? This is Christian Knudsen, the new paparazzo of the journal. Non-depicteds are looking through the first floor windows and all of them are occupied.

All attendees admire Deutschs` new floating and fuming magic lantern. No clue who brought these wind-up bunnies. Surely, these magic castles have ghosts and rats,…

This cartoon was the title page of the journal ‚Magische Welt‘ 2/2010, so you do not have to cut it but rather stick the whole journal on the wall.

Victor Lazarro

I call this picture
The shell man

Victor Lazarro claims to have had a passionless and uneventful childhood, until his grandfather finally gave him a deck of cards.

Big patience and the love to his 52 obedient friends earned him several awards and prizes. After his criminalistics studies he got more and more interested in card sharping. On study trips to North and Middle America he got acquainted to this dangerous art and lived for a longer time in Mexico.

Back in Germany he went underground in Leipzig and shortly after moved to the capital Berlin under a false name. He was founding member of the Close-Up-Clubs there and worked on more programs.

A few years later, he established himself with his CasinoMagicShow on the German Gala market.

Since then he is one of the best booked Event- Card Sharp in exquisite pokerclubs, casinos and hotels.

His favourite trick, in addition to the poker cards is the shell game for which I caricatured him with the threat of Greek Euro bills (Yes, I am bribable).

See his current autograph card. This picture has been issued in 300 dpi, 40 by 40 cm. Poster could also be printed based on it.

Joshua Jay

I call this figure
The Headcritic

Joshua Jay is one of the most famous close up- and cards magician world-wide. In his younger years, he gained fame for publishing his book: ‚Magic – The complete course‘. A vast number of workshops made him travel the world. For several years he has been writing a column for the American journal MAGIC, published in Las Vegas. He reviews tricks there. Many tricks. In fact: he reviews tricks like on a assembly line. This gave the reason to caricature him. As headcritic of MAGIC he works in his office in Las Vegas at the floating assembly line and reviews with his wand the latest tricks. Many things end up in the trash, a few things are possibly viable. A little is his column worth and even less, only the exquisite diamonds go to his own top head. The big archetype for all American magicians –Dai Vernon- hangs on the wall, next to his book. It figures, I have equipped the excellent magician with tophat and tails in the American colours.

This cartoon has been published in the „Magische Welt“ 2/2010 full page to cut it out. So you can hang it over your bed or slot it into your cardstack.
